Pastor Greg Cook, Level 1
|
|
|
Greg was born in Canton, Ohio on September
19, 1952 to Christian parents, the first of four children.
They moved to San Jose, California during the Christmas
break of his junior year of high school, and then moved to
Dayton in October of his senior year. He graduated from
Kettering Fairmont East High School in 1970. Those were hard
years that God used to bring him closer to Him.
Music was always a major part of his life.
His father started him on piano lessons at age 5. He started
lessons on the baritone during 5th grade; band was a major
part of his school life from then on. Greg enrolled at
Wright State University. He moved his family to Ankeny, Iowa
in the fall of 1975 where he enrolled in Faith Baptist Bible
College with two goals – learn more about the Bible and
prepare for some kind of Christian service. He graduated in
1982, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, with majors in
Sacred Music and Bible and a minor in Christian Education in
the Local Church. He enrolled in the Certified Financial
Planner program in 1982, completed that educational program
and became certified in 1985. His vocations have been:
assembly line and chemistry lab at General Motors, Dayton,
Ohio, deputy sheriff in Montgomery County, Ohio, piano
tuner/technician, administration at Faith Baptist Bible
College after graduation from 1982-1985 (registrar,
financial aid administrator, on-campus events coordinator,
publications, student recruitment, student retention,
student admissions, donor relations), and computer
programming at Reynolds and Reynolds. In 1987 he started his
own financial planning company – GDC Asset Management Group.
From 1989 to the present, he has been working through
American Express Financial Advisors (formerly IDS Financial
Services) as a Certified Financial Planner practitioner®.
Greg is married to Becky; their children are Laurie, Jen,
Aaron and Shelly.
God graciously brought Greg to salvation
at the age of 7 during a series of special meetings at his
church in Canton, Ohio. His ministry oversight here at the
Chapel is as Pastor of Spiritual Restoration and Renewal.
That currently involves the Crisis Discipleship ministry
done on Mondays, the Biblical Counseling training programs,
the Family Enrichment Conference during the month of
January, and the Grace Partners Retreat the last weekend in
January. The Crisis Discipleship ministry includes 5 NANC
certified counselors as well as several others who
graciously give of their time to help those struggling in
life. This ministry is formally done on Mondays. We have
historically held about 700-800 appointments each year. Our
Level One and Level Two classes are approved by NANC as
satisfying the educational requirement for certification. |
